GiveNOLA Begins Today!

April 25, 2018

Every year, the Greater New Orleans Foundation sponsors a 24-hour online giving event to make it easy for people to donate to New Orleans nonprofits that are making our city stronger. GiveNOLA Day is May 1 this year - but you can

schedule your gift today!!

This is the fourth year the Lower 9th Ward Homeownership Association has participated in GiveNOLA, and it has become an important part of our annual budget. Each year we dedicate your generous gifts to a particular program.

Last year we used your gift to launch Ms. Galethea's Outreach Campaign. One of the people who found us as a result of that campaign was Dennette Gentry, who I wrote to you about last week.  She was about to lose her childhood home at tax sale, until we intervened and saved it.
It's because of cases like hers that we are now launching a new campaign to preserve the homes of others who have gotten back to their neighborhood - people who, despite all the obstacles they have already overcome, are now facing new threats from inaccurate assessments, lack of homestead exemptions, title issues, and problems like the ones Ms. Gentry had with the tax sale process. Our goal for this program is to ensure that no resident loses their home for lack of access to appropriate services. The cost of preserving a home through such intervention is small in comparison to the cost of replacing it.

Ms. Gentry, secure in her home.

Everything you give on GiveNOLA Day will go to support homeowners like Ms. Gentry.

You don't have to wait until next Tuesday to be part of GiveNOLA. To make sure you don't forget to donate, you can SCHEDULE YOUR GIFT TODAY!!

Your credit card will be charged on May 1 and your donation will qualify for what we call "lagniappe" here in New Orleans - a little something extra - added to your gift by the Greater New Orleans Foundation.

Thank you so much for your ongoing support.

P.S. Once you've given, visit us on Facebook and like our page. Whit that simple act you can spread the word about homeowners like Ms. Gentry who are trying to save their homes.
